Lent 2024: Wade in the Water
Every year, during Advent and Lent, we invite you to join us for a free 4-week series of online study sessions via Zoom. Beginning on Wednesday 28th February 2024 at 10.30am and for the following three Wednesdays this is a lovely opportunity to meet and share with people from other churches (or none) in a welcoming, informal and open atmosphere.
In this series of Lenten Bible studies, we will ‘dip our toes’ in just a few of the many Bible stories in which water is an important motif. We will explore some of the different ways in which these ancient stories can be approached in our own times, drawing out enduring messages about God, ourselves and our communities.
Barbara Easton is a former Vice President of the Conference. She has a long back story in Local Preaching and lay leadership in the church. For most of her working life she has been found in schools in one role or another, often in RE classrooms. She has degrees in Christian theology and wider religious studies, and her current interests are around practical Christianity, lay ministries, deepening spirituality and interfaith encounter. She enjoys walking, with a bit of birdwatching, and would like to do more sewing. She has a husband, some children and a dog.
The sessions will run as follows:
- Wednesday 28th February 10.30am. Seen and known: we look at two encounters with God: one in a place of exclusion and another in the heart of the community.
- Wednesday 6th March 10.30am. Home and away: in today’s rich story we think about the different ways we, and others, carry the faith.
- Wednesday 13 March 10.30am. Wrongs and rights: we consider some of the difficulties of standing for justice through two stories, one famous and one less so.
- Wednesday 20th March 10.30am. Tasting bitterness, finding grace: sometimes we are called to places more difficult than we might expect; sometimes grace surprises us when we least expect it.
