Rededication of the Hugh Bourne Memorial

October 8, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

2022 marks the 250th anniversary of the birth of Hugh Bourne, one of the founders of Primitive Methodism. One of the ways that we at Englesea Brook have chosen to mark this occasion is by restoring the memorial to Hugh Bourne at the site of his burial, in the graveyard opposite the Englesea Brook Chapel and Museum. The memorial will be rededicated at a special service at Englesea Brook on Sunday 8th October in the presence of the Rev. Graham Thompson, the President of the Methodist Conference. There will also be a panel discussion on the topic of the taboo of dying and whether there can be such a thing as a good death. You can also tour our Museum Store, where we have a rarely-seen letter by Hugh Bourne’s niece, Ann Salmon, describing Hugh Bourne’s death.  And there is a buffet tea to round off the afternoon.  Booking is helpful (for catering numbers) but you can just turn up on the day. All are welcome.
