Advent 2024: Rejoice In Our Advent Hope?!
Every year, during Advent and Lent, we invite you to join us for a free series of four weekly online study sessions via Zoom. 2024’s series of Advent study sessions ran from 27th November for the following three Wednesdays until 18th December, and provided a lovely opportunity for participants to meet and share with people from other churches (or none) in a welcoming, informal and open atmosphere. Tim Macquiban led us in reflecting on what it means to live the joy of the Gospel in everyday life, experienced in the darkness and fears of our lives as well as in the light of the hope of peace in a justice-seeking community.
Tim Macquiban is an active supernumerary minister serving Saughall, a former Primitive Methodist chapel in the North Cheshire circuit. He was formerly: Research Director of the Englesea Brook Chapel and Museum of Primitive Methodism; a member of the Oxford Institute of Methodist Theological Studies; and has taught in colleges and universities in Rome, Cambridge, Salisbury, Oxford and Bristol.
The four sessions were:
- Wednesday 27th November 10.30am. The Hope That Delivers Us From Darkness
In this session Tim looked at: Psalm 130, Isaiah 60: 1-3 and 19, and the Charles Wesley hymn Come Thou Long Expected Jesus. - Wednesday 4th December 10.30am. The Hope That Brings Joy
In this session Tim looked at: Lamentations 3: 21-26, and the Charles Wesley hymn All Glory To God In The Sky. - Wednesday 11th December 10.30am. The Hope That Dispels Fears
In this session Tim looked at: Romans 15: 4-6, and the Charles Wesley hymn Away With Our Fears. - Wednesday 18th December 10.30am.The Hope That Brings Peace

We very much hope that you will be able to join us for our next session of lessons for Lent in 2025.
