Primitive Methodist Chaplains during the Great War
During the First World War over 70 Primitive Methodist ministers served as chaplains in the armed forces. In this talk, Philip Jackson will discuss the wartime experiences of five of these men, examining their social background prior to the war and the importance of their shared religious education at Hartley College, Manchester. He will also describe their efforts, as part of the Royal Army Chaplains department, to serve the British soldiers they encountered on the Western Front.
