'More light, less heat'? Study day

10.30-3.30 Englesea Brook Chapel & Museum

Did the Primitive Methodist Arthur Samuel Peake, the Wesleyan Joseph Agar Beet, and others, by enabling their students to accept biblical criticism and by adapting tradition to modern insights, help to take Methodism forward into the 20th century and beyond or merely drive the first nails into its coffin?

There will be talks by Rev Dr Martin Wellings, Oxford Memorial Church, Methodist historian (Wesleyan Methodism); David Young, author of Change and Decay (Primitive Methodism); Rev Simon Sutcliffe, Queen's Theological College, Immerse community (Methodist Church today).
