Building work started on new Museum Store

We are delighted that after months and years of planning and fundraising, a purpose-built Open Store is being built at the top of our car park to create public access to our unique collection of over 5,000 artefacts. It is due to be completed by the end of August 2018.

Creating access to the whole collection has been a long held vision, and this Open Store with specially designed display cases, drawers to open, light boxes to see stained glass panels and space to view our large collection of banners has been designed to enhance the experience of our visitors from far and wide. It also has full disabled access.

The single storey building will have a sedum roof to ensure it blends into its environment and is not visible from the road—the architect’s drawings below give you an idea of what it will look like from the north and the east. We will keep you posted as the building work progresses.
